Sweden’s Blestemat is a conduit for an inescapable darkness, a black void that both consumes and enlightens. The project’s debut EP, “Poisonous Metal”, is not just music; it’s an existential force, a commemoration of the relentless spirit of black metal.
“Poisonous Metal” is a homage to the black metal renaissance of the 2000s, the so-called orthodox current – resonating with the spirit of notable acts like Malign, Watain, and Ofermod. But this is more than a mere tribute; it’s a continuation of a lineage from which younger artists might draw inspiration. Blestemat seeks not just to participate in the narrative but to become a foundational element, offering a palette of sinister profundity for others to interpret.
The EP stands as a testament to the band’s philosophy: black metal is not a genre for discussions or earthly concerns. It’s a primal force, a clarion call to those who stand in opposition to the very fabric of the universe. Blestemat delves beyond mere nihilism, transcending apathy to actively challenge the essence of creation. It’s an artistic insurgency against all that is bright and burgeoning.

Drawing from a wellspring of sinister musings and an incessant drive for musical experimentation, Iterum Nata presents “From the Infinite Light”, due for release by Nordvis on March 15, 2024.
In the wake of his critically acclaimed 2023 album, “Trench of Loneliness”, Jesse Heikkinen (The Abbey, Henget, ex-Hexvessel) embarks on a bold foray across the boundaries between folk music, black and doom metal, neo-folk, and progressive rock, orchestrating a symphony where every note is a harbinger of both darkness and light.
As twelve-string and six-string acoustic guitars weave a cloak of folky serenity, tremolo-picked electric guitars inject black metal mysticism, forging a sound that's as distinctive as it is immersive. Fusing the brooding narratives of Nick Cave, the avant-garde creativity of Dødheimsgard, and the spectral chants of Dead Can Dance, “From the Infinite Light” is a beckoning path into a world where the melancholy of introspection meets the rage of existence.
“From the Infinite Light” was produced, recorded, and mixed by Jesse Heikkinen at Studio Beyond North Star. Cover art by Kjetil Karlsen. The album features guest appearances by Matron Thorn (Ævangelist, Benighted in Sodom), Rob Coffinshaker (The Coffinshakers), as well as renowned author and occultist Richard Kaczynski.

After many years as a sold-out collector’s item, Nechochwen's milestone album “Heart of Akamon” (2015) has been re-issued on vinyl.
The West Virginian duo seamlessly blends haunting melodies, intricate guitar work, and evocative storytelling to transport you to a world where history and legend intertwine. The thematic heart of Nechochwen's dirges lies in the stories of indigenous people, evoking a sense of persecution, struggle, and pride.
“Heart of Akamon” offers meticulously crafted metal in a masterful fusion with elements of dark folk and Americana – it captures the essence of the hunt, the intensity of battle, and the magic of tales told around a campfire. Fans of contemporary acts such as Saor, Agalloch, and Falls of Rauros are sure to appreciate Nechochwen’s unique Appalachian folk metal blend.
Born from the synthesis of Swedish folk melodies and ritual ambient, Linnea Hjertén's debut album “Nio systrar” (‘Nine sisters’) is a wordless invocation of primordial energy – a psychoacoustic gateway to altered states of consciousness.
Each of the nine tracks brings us deeper into the cycle of spiritual death and rebirth, stripping away the old to make way for the new. With a musical maturity far beyond her years, Hjertén channels the ethereal beauty of Dead Can Dance, the spellbinding chants of Kari Rueslåtten, and the minimalist Nordic atmosphere of Forndom.
“Nio systrar” will be released by Nordvis on CD and digital format on January 12, 2024. It was recorded, produced, and mixed by Linnea Hjertén. Samples and additional recordings by Ludvig Swärd (Forndom). Mastered by Tore Stjerna at Necromorbus Studio.
As a natural extension of her spiritual practices, Linnea Hjertén reached a point where her melodies had to break the confines of her private sanctuary. The compositions had initially served a wide range of purposes: as grounding forces, as enhancements of energies, and as manifestations of intent to release that which no longer served her.
With an expansive love for diverse genres – from ambient to folk, from jazz to various forms of metal – Linnea's music is less about the style and more about a different quality, sound, or purpose. Trained in music production, she relishes the creative journey from inner melody to the final mix, unearthing the exact tools needed to craft the perfect musical space.
Immerse yourself in an ethereal tapestry woven with musical threads from bygone cultures. “Glysisvallur” – the debut offering from Bards of Skaði – is a masterful blend of orchestral grandeur, Norse tradition, and neofolk ambience. It is a living homage to the elusive spirit of lost civilisations – a hauntingly beautiful panorama encapsulating the melancholy, wonder, and complexity of our collective pasts.
Whether you find solace in the evocative works of Howard Shore and Björn Isfält, or the enduring mystique of traditional Nordic music and early classical compositions, Bards of Skaði invite you to partake in a voyage into domains scarcely traversed in modern music.
The foundation for “Glysisvallur” was laid within a research project known as The Frozen Atlantis. After finding artistic satisfaction in the initial compositions, Bards of Skaði resolved to travel deeper into the realms of musical antiquity, blending baroque intricacies, modal melodies, and archaic instruments to evoke an atmosphere reminiscent of civilisations long past.
On strings, guitars, lute, lyre, keys, and programming, we find Thomas von Wachenfeldt, who – apart from being a PhD and Associate Professor in Sound and Music Production at Dalarna University – has arranged music for symphony orchestras and death metal legends like Entombed. Göran Månsson, flutes and percussion, is a seasoned educator at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and has graced the international stages in a variety of styles ranging from classical ensembles to popular outfits like Gjallarhorn, Nordman, and Sarek.
Through “Glysisvallur”, Bards of Skaði extend an open invitation to an environment where music theory meets primal emotion, offering a lush and layered experience that captures the imagination and stirs the soul. It is a journey into an ageless world, one that welcomes you to lose and find yourself within its haunting melodies.
Format: CD Jewel Case, 8 page booklet including release explanation and photos.
Forndom was born as a reflection of bygone days – of the forests and open landscapes of central Sweden, as well as its historical heritage. Similarly, coinciding with the project’s nine-year anniversary, Ludvig Swärd muses over his own musical past.
Following the enthusiastic reception of “Och med vinden ack de gunga” – Ludvig’s re-envisioning of his droning masterpiece “Jag vet ett tempel stå" - comes “Alster”, a piano work of contemporary classical with a distinct Scandinavian atmosphere. Six Forndom compositions in brand new interpretations alongside "Aska", a fresh take on an old unreleased song.

Grift’s fourth studio album, “Dolt land” (‘Hidden land’), is a profound exploration of humankind’s bond with nature. With folkloric sounds and heartfelt lyrics, the multidisciplinary Swedish music project takes listeners on a journey into the heart of the wild.
“Dolt land” diverges from the more metal-oriented “Budet” (2020); instead, it continues the acoustic approach of the EPs “Vilsna andars boning” (2018) and “Vilsna andars utmark” (2022). Like the aforementioned two seven-inches, “Dolt land” pays homage to Kinnekulle - a mountain whose nature, legends, and traditions have served as Grift’s main source of inspiration since the project’s conception in 2011.
Erik plays all the instruments himself - including acoustic guitar, melodica, glockenspiel, analogue synth, and percussion - and has also sampled nature sounds to create a truly immersive listening experience. Soothing and stirring, yet still feral and untamed; Grift’s evocative music will resonate with fans of Sangre de Muerdago, Anna von Hausswolff, and Nebelung.

Thomas von Wachenfeldt’s 2010 album “Malleus Clericum – Hinslåtar, näckvalser och häxdanser” (‘The Clergy Hammer – Devil-songs, sprite-waltzes, and witch-dances’) is a solo violin masterpiece consisting of 25 tracks rooted in traditional Swedish folk music and lore.
This album is primarily a listening experience – a flight of the imagination – rather than for dancing. Despite the lone instrument, the compositions are versatile enough and the playing is so spellbinding that it never grows tedious. From the sinister energy of “Djävulspolskan” (‘The Devil's Polska’) to the more melancholic interpretations of ‘Näcklåtar’, which are tunes associated with the mythical water spirit Näcken. Many of these pieces were originally known as ‘bravurlåtar’ (bravura tunes), a term specific to the Swedish musical tradition for songs that showcase not only the fiddler's virtuosity but also his connection to the spirit world.
Double CD with a 12 page booklet including custom drawings and liner notes.
Thomas von Wachenfeldt’s “Mythos of the Forefathers” – an ambient dark-folk work in two volumes – is a heartfelt homage to Fädernas gudasaga, a book by Swedish 19th-century scholar and author Viktor Rydberg.
“Mythos of the Forefathers” was created to complement the text in each of the book’s chapters. To capture its overall mood, Thomas combined conventional compositions which adhere to form and structure with unorthodox music that evokes an archaic atmosphere. Drawing from older Nordic folk scales, he utilised traditional instruments like lyre, flutes, drums, and string instruments, while also incorporating various synthesisers to instil a sense of metaphysical wonder.

Instrumental interludes play a pivotal role, serving as introductions, transitions, and a grand finale – all enhancing the conceptual nature of the album. The vocal performances of both brothers intertwine harmoniously, complementing each other's strengths. Their diverse range, from powerful growls to ethereal chants, adds depth and intensity to the music, creating a captivating blend.
Prepare yourself for an unforgettable musical odyssey; let Waldgeflüster transport you to untamed realms, where the beauty of nature meets the raw power of black metal. Open your heart, close your eyes, and embark on an extraordinary escapade.
